LIMITATIONS OF MECHANICAL COMBINATION LOCKS
Combination locks are difficult to operate - this causes a number of operational problems:
The locks are incredibly difficult to alter the combination number - again this causes problems:
As the locks wear, there is an increased ability to manipulate the lock (unauthorised opening) and security diminishes. Dual control means 2 locks - causes increased cost and doubles the problems Modern requirements such as Time Delay, Hold-Up alarm, Overnight Time Lockout, Dual Control, Management control over Staff, cost savings, resistance to manipulation, staff training time, ease of combination changing and of course ease of use are poorly addressed by mechanical combination locks.
ALL THESE OPERATIONAL AND MANAGERIAL PROBLEMS
ARE OVERCOME BY LAGARD ELECTRONIC

Features specific to the Smartgard
Smartgard accessories
ALARM PANEL INTERFACE - for all model electronic locks
The Alarm interface is a small PC board that

allows connection between LaGard electronic
locks (Combogard, Digigard, Smartgard)
and an external alarm panel.
This board is housed in the battery box on the
inside of the door that powers the electronic lock
The addition of the alarm
interface board and external
wiring to an alarm panel
provides two security features :
SILENT HOLD-UP (DURESS) ALARM, and SWITCH OPERATION (TIME LOCK)

Silent Hold-up alarm (Duress)
RED + BLACK WIRES - Setable relay contacts on PC Alarm board set to
(NO)Normally open, or (NC) Normally closed. Can be altered by the alarm
installer with a jumper on the board (see diagram).
Maximum load is 50VDC @ 0.25 Amps. The relay is energised for 3 seconds when
the Duress code is entered at the keypad The wires are non-polarised and
operate simply as a switched pair NC is preferred as any tampering or cutting
of the external wires is then detected by the alarm board.
Entry of a slightly altered code (duress code) at the electronic lock will open
the lock and safe as normal, but also activate a silent hold-up (duress) alarm
using the existing alarm panel. Often Banks and other institutions also adopt TIME
DELAYED opening when using this hold-up alarm feature. This feature is present
in all LaGard electronic locks and costs nothing to activate.
Switch operation function
(TIMELOCK)
The application of an external power (5 to 12 VDC @ 20mAmax) applied to the
YELLOW (+) and GREEN (-) wires switches the operation of the lock.
|
|
Power OFF |
|
|
Modes 1,2,& 3 |
Lock operates normally |
Lock is disabled |
|
Mode 4 |
Normal mode - DUAL control |
Switched mode - single control |
In mode 1,2 & 3 this
function provides a very effective TIMELOCK, where on leaving the premises at
the close of business, the alarm panel is armed as normal. This provides the
power signal to the lock disabling it.
Now you get electronic lock convenience in the daytime, with the lock disabled
during the nigh-time giving the ultimate in security.
This has also been used very effectively where a Manager can have each
safe/vault door/ATM simply wired back to his office, and then via a small
switch panel fully control the access to all safes under his control.
Mode 4 is a specialist mode used by CIT operators to control guards conducting ATM cash replenishments & maintenance..
